The former still lingered on because of its innovative and enchanting qualities, until finally succumbing to Photoshop and other graphic software programs. This brought about the gradual changeover (25-plus years) from illustrated to photographic covers. Another point is that major advancements in photographic equipment and technology took place during the 1930s. The Internet brought about future upheaval and dramatic changes for survival. They targeted specific (not diverse) audiences. The more specialized magazines fared better (example Parents). Their industry was adversely affected by the popularity of radio and television (more attractive mediums for advertisers), along with the changing times (or taste) and economics (increased cost / decreased revenue). These seven magazines were once ranked among the most widely circulated. One of them was Paul Martin, whose work appeared on the covers of Collier's, Everybody's, Farm & Fireside, The Farmer's Wife, Liberty, Parents and People's Home Journal from 1923–31. Nonetheless, these unheralded illustrators played an important role, in communicating (and documenting) the people's aspirations, concerns, customs, humor, ideals, labor, morals and social interests. This was due to their artwork being viewed as commercially (not creativity) inspired. However, the vast majority of book and magazine illustrators received little recognition, compared to the fine artists.
